Planet of the Library
For fans of manuscripts, facsimiles and old books in general, I presented an exhibition on the first steps of the Planetary Geology (or Planetology), where individual pieces are displayed in their first editions on the development of this discipline in the world, with some exceptional examples of English pioneers in this field.
Exposed material consists of books and maps from 1870 to 1970, with a small section of natural samples composed of meteorite, tektite and anorthosites (the rock forming
lunar terrae).
With all this, from Thursday 24 March the exhibition begins
"of points in the sky to exotic landscapes: highlights of the Planetary Geology" multidisciplinary in the room of the Library of the Faculty of Geosciences of the UCM, coordinated by Gabriel Castilla our dear friend, collaborator and fellow tireless battles
of Paleontology Somosaguas Project.
It can be seen from the Alfred Wegener surprising observations about the geology of the Moon, a tribute to the geologist Alfredo San Miguel, Professor of Petrology at the University of Barcelona in 1972 organized the first congress based Lunar Geology in Spain.
This is undoubtedly a proposal sigular approach to Planetology at the very heart of the University: the library.
